I use the latest script by K.C., but I see error:
Image

Tested on Windows codepages: PL (Polish Programmers), US, UK.
Also updated it with the newest MDB and script posted by Vicman.

Emulators.ini:
ScriptFile=Acorn Atom v1.33.txt
Has this problem solution at all ?

looking at your picture
the "Load" and "RUN" commands have been typed in the DOS BOX window not the Atom Emulator.
so it is hasn't run on your system.

you need the correct emulator path to be set.
Emulators.ini

The Atom emulator is run in dosbox from the games dir
C:\Program Files\GameBase\Acorn Atom\Games
so if you moved the games you moved the Atom emulator as well.

see script
;Autostart ATOM emulator with DOSBox
;-----------------------------------
Add_CLP( "%storedgames(0)%\ATOM.EXE")

setup the gamebase on C: using the default setup.
that will work.

I downloaded "Acorn Atom GameBase v1.01" first, updated directory (nothing deleted) and tested. I don't know where is my mistake, because:

script by K.C. (posted on 2nd page) does not have such part:
Add_CLP( "%storedgames(0)%\ATOM.EXE")
but it only runs DOSBOX (not Atom.exe)

script by Vicman have such part, but shows error in Line 85 (I tested it with PL, UK, US codepage in Windows)

My new Emulators.ini:
[Emulators]
1=Acorn Atom v1.33
2=Acorn Atom
3=

[Acorn Atom v1.33]
UseShortFilenames=1
UseDefaultTypes=0
SupportedTypes=tap
EmulatorPathFile=c:\program files\gamebase\Acorn Atom\Emulator\Dosbox\dosbox.exe
ScriptFile=Acorn Atom v1.33.txt
WaitFinish=1
1=

[Acorn Atom]
UseShortFilenames=1
UseDefaultTypes=0
SupportedTypes=tap
EmulatorPathFile=c:\program files\gamebase\Acorn Atom\Games\Atom.exe
ScriptFile=Acorn Atom v1.33.txt
WaitFinish=1
1=
If I run it with entry "Acorn Atom v1.33" (script by K.C.), I see:
Image

If I run it with entry "Acorn Atom" (script by K.C.), I see:

I have Atom.exe in Games directory

Now I'm really confused, maybe it's some stupidity, but can't find it.

Remove Acorn Atom (the second one) from your emulators.
What is intended to happen, is launch DOSBox, run ATOM.EXE in the DOSBox window and start the game by sending keystrokes to it.
Starting ATOM.EXE straight from the GameBase frontend will ot work.

mcx997 wrote:script by K.C. (posted on 2nd page) does not have such part:

but it only runs DOSBOX (not Atom.exe)
The script posted on page 2 is not the complete script. It's only the complete section of the script that needs to be replaced in the original script.
So revert to the original script and replace the last part of that script with what's posted on page 2 in this thread.
The complete script certainly has a line Add_CLP( "%storedgames(0)%\ATOM.EXE") (line 79).

This is still a beta version. ATM a final version still isn't available. At best you can call it a release candidate.

Hope this helps.

Thank You for Your time on analyze it and reply. The same tnx goes to .mad. and Vicman. Now I understand it better (about 2 scripts, Atom WON'T run directly from GB).

EDIT: simple update GameBase from "26 April 2010" to "03 June 2010" solved all problems. Older versions of 1.3 - without installer - had numbers (as release date) in name. Versions 1.3 with installer (April and June) has not. I've been thinking the newest one posted in this thread is the same I have. But I downloaded the newest one and seen diference in filesize, then I was sure where was the problem. Checking release date (from About window) is the key to success 8)

Is this true that Acorn Atom is hard to use without XPADDER and joypad ? I would like to play games with this emu on keyboard more comfortable. Not because I'm "cheap" and can't buy joypad, but to have better comfort with keyboard. But, is this possible to configure keyboard of Atom by any prog (like XPADDER, but without joypad needed) to have more comfortable keys to play games ?

Because if I want to play (for example) game Astrobirds, I have to use:

CURSOR DOWN = left
CTRL = right
ALT = fire

Is any chance to change it to other keys without XPADDER and joypad ?

Code: Select all

yes, but i think you don't like it....(i.e. for Astrobirds) :oops:

You can press F4 when you are in the Game/Emulator.

Now you have the "alternative Keyboard".

On my German Keyboard i have now : (i think us keyboard, too)

Astrobirds :
-------------
Left = caps lock :oops:
right = left shift
fire = right shift

don't know another solution,yet.

Do you use the DosBox inside of the GB Atom-Folder ?

this is because you are not in the "Acorn Atom Emulator".
There would stand : *R."113" to load & run the game...

When I had the same problem, updated GameBase to THE NEWEST ONE from "03 June 2010" and merged K.C.'s script with Vicman's. But mergeing scripts is not necessary now, because update to v1.0.1 has complete proper script (or at least it is working on my PL and US keyboard). I have ATOM.EXE in Games directory (as default). With all of this it is working for me.

And, by the way, I bought joypad with PS3 layout, remapped it and I'm happy. Remapped emulated joystick keys to joypad also for Amiga, Atari 800XL, Commodore 64, Amstrad CPC & ZX Spectrum (hardmanm's of course), Vectrex and I'm happy. Only on Amiga sometimes this joy reacts too slow (wired version of joy), comparing to keyboard, in fast games like All Terrain Racing. But decision to put XPADDER in Atom was great and now I like it (I didn't like it at beginning, I remember ;)). It opened my eyes for better entertainment in other GameBase's. Thank You very much then :D

Hi Again,

Well, dos box is in the GB folder(atom) ,in Emulator/Dosbox/dosbox.exe.
So thats ok i guess?

I wanted to check Gamebase but suddenly i get this error:

Run Time error 430

Class does not support automation or does not support expected interface.

So now i cannot even start Gamebase!'

Whats this ?
