C64 Tape Transfer Utility

Fri Jun 07, 2013 5:40 pm

I have a friend looking for a decent tape to disk transfer utility.

would prefer one that doesn't need a lot of coding knowledge, and works like Mega-Disk used to.

load utility
select tape loader from menu
insert blank disk
load tape
auto saves program to disk

these are the tape loading routines he is looking for.

burner_tape_transfer_1.0
chr_load_tape_transfer_2.0
novaload_special_tape_transfer_1.0
novaload_tape_transfer_1.0
tape_transfer_shell (base)
u.s.gold_tape_transfer_1.0
virgin_tape_transfer_1.0
wildload_tape_transfer_1.0

if you have any of these in PRG format, that would still help a little.
Thanks!.

What about dumping all tapes to TAP image instead and doing all the conversion on the PC?

what is the most reliable program and setup to do this.

i used one a few years ago, with very limited success.
This was using a Walkman and a phono lead to PC.

Is there a program that uses a cable/dongle to a 1530?.

I know I have those transfer utils on HD somewhere but I can't lay my hands on them at the moment. Have you tried searching csdb for "transfer"?

Using a soundcard to sample it is not a good idea. The most reliable setup is using a DC2N, which unless you can find someone willing to sell to theirs is non-starter. Next best is probably MTAP with a suitable tape adaptor - but compared with a DC2N even that will be very unreliable.

If there are definitely undumped TAPs then I'm willing to dump them with my DC2N and return the tapes when done. However, a LOT of tapes have already been dumped - perhaps the TAPs already exists in the GB64 extras collection? If the TAPs exist however having them on PC won't help that much as there are no automated tools to make a single PRG/D64 from a TAP. You can get the raw program data from TAPCLEAN but you will need to reconstruct it - it's fairly easy with single loaders but a lot more complicated with multi-loaders.

the dc2n looks amazing.

shame i missed out on that piece of kit.
could of dumped over 1000 tapes i got my hands on a while back.
which i sold after disking them.

Thanks for the idea of searching CSDB again.
first thing i did was to search for "tape transfer"
which gave two results, missing most of the tools i was looking for.

i think he just want's to dump his own tape collection.
and has a complete with Extras GameBase v10. 8)

will pass the kind offer to dump his tapes.
but as he is in Germany not sure if it's worth the cost.

unless he has Daffy Duck. ;)
