Weird forum search bug

Mon May 10, 2021 1:49 am

When I search for "Robotronix", no suitable matches are found, but I used that word here

Edit: well, now, there's 1 match, but 2 are expected.

Robotronix [preview] was removed in v17 of GameBase.

Correct name is "Battle Tech [Preview]"

so search result is correct.

I'm talking about the forum search, not the GB64 collection search  I often use the forum search to see if the game I'm looking at has been mentioned in threads/discussions.

Please try searching for Robotronix at http://gb64.com/forum/search.php and see if http://gb64.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=22991#p22991 comes up. The results seem to be incomplete.

Ideas what the problem could be...

That Robotronix text has a URL attached to the dead link (delted database entry).
so it *might* be flagged and omitted in the search.
*that forum section is also Locked.

the post was many years ago...
the forum was updated and moved to a new server, to fix registration problems and bugs.
Many old posts with code windows showing scripts look corrupt showing code numbers instead of brackets now.
maybe they are stored just to read and not included in the search.

all posts after the update (2017) should work in a search.
and this is one of them. ;)

Wow, that'd be so useless ;) Let's check:
Bowlen
Edit: Nope, it can be found just fine.

Searching for "reaxion" returns this post, which is from the same forum and locked thread, just 5 days apart.

Not sure if date plays a role here, as posts much older than the referenced one can be searched. There must be some quirk in search/database that makes results incomplete, not sure about the exact conditions though...
