Upgrading from gamebase64v13b to latest Gamebase

Sat Sep 24, 2005 10:06 pm

I have the older Gamebase64 with all games screens sids ect..
So I try the new game base.
When I am in the tool section I config my "paths"
I point to the Games in the old gamebase64 to the screen and everything else.

Even with the right paths showing it still will not scan or show anygames?

You need to select "Tools > Verify available files"

You will probably find a lot are missing or not "found" because of the differences in the database.

It will not work, since the version where you are upgrading from is MUCH too old. GB64 v1.3 used the Blast Collection. The newer versions of GB64 use their own games collection and have different names and paths. So no games from the Blast Collection will be detected by newer versions of GB64. Try to catch the 4 CD images of GB64. They are still available on the eMule network.

You can do it in a 2-step process.
1) Upgrade the database from gamebase64 v1.3b to GameBase v1.1
2) Upgrade it from GB v1.1 to GB v1.1

You can get the utilities to upgrade at http://www.bu22.com/downloads.php

I also had the gamebase64 1.3 which is the lastest version and the one mentioned on the gb64 main page. It works. I also have a folder with 100's of D64 and T64 files that gamebase64 had no problem with. I expected gamebase 1.1 to be as simple, but it does not see any of the game files after setting the paths. It does not offer all the emulators that gamebase64 offered and you need them all because some games will only work on one of them. To be told you have to download this, download that, run this, run that, and to be told your version is so OLD - as though it's the users fault somehow is incredible!

I will be going back to gamebase64. Supported or not. I am not a programmer or some data specialist, and gamebase 1.1 should be like gamebase64. Working at least on the fundamental level "out of the box". What's so wrong with finding D64 files in a C64 database for goodness sake!!!

You can flame me as much as you want with "you didn't do this" or "you didn't do that" or "you should have known to do this" or "you should have known how to do that", but nevertheless I was able to set up gamebase64, I was able to update the program as well as the C64 database, the screenshots and set up the SID player/files. I managed to set up the paths to the emulators and the game files and I had the database working perfectly okay, so I am not stupid.

I now have to go back and set up the gamebase64 all over again. Needless to say, I will not be coming back to this forum, so no help is needed.
End of PC gaming in a couple years? Hope not! But think so!

Whatever dude! gamebase64 v1.3 is very, very, very old (over 5 years old). GameBase v1.1 is the latest, greatest, and totally remade upgrade to multi-platform support, thus no 64 in the title. Do you see the difference in the spellings (gamebase64 vs. GameBase)? They are different programs, roughly analagous to Win95 vs. Win2K. You will be missing out on 30,000+ games, screenshots and extras not in gamebse64 v1.3b. You claim to not be stupid, yet your first line and basic concept of GameBase is wrong. Your loss. At least you have something.

One more thing, the GameBase Collection v03 (the latest release that includes GameBase v1.1, the v03 database, games, screenshots, extras, sid music and emulators) comes on 4 CDs and supports 39 C64 eulators, with 38 being included on CD 1. I believe that gambase64 v1.3b supported 5 emulators.
