I'm after the same PC-98 collection for gamebase as well. I've yet to find a working link. I have however found this link which is a software and games dump for the NEC PC 98.

Since the GameBase release, the original huge collection of disks from a Japanese BBS, has been repacked along with every other dumped disk available online by NeoKobe.
This is now the must have set for any PC9801 fan.

However there is one small downside for using this collection (as is) with GameBase...
The way it is packed.
Running a few CD's, HD's the required boot disks are in a separate archives.
so they need to be unpacked and loaded manually.
which could be a problem for those that want to just click the mouse and play.

Multi-Disk game files could do with a rename, so the GameBase script can auto insert the correct disk in drive B.
But that's not a big deal for people who understand Japanese. ;)

The neo-kobe collection when unpacked, ready for use with gamebase it is close to 80GB. :shock:
so a repack and reupload to MEGA is well over the 50GB size limit.

If everyone downloaded and unpacked the collection, a batch file could be made to rename and repack the problem multi-disk files.
every CD, HD requiring a boot disk game could be left unpacked to speed up the loading from the "gamename" folder.
All single disk and installed HD games can be left alone, as they will run without any problems. :mrgreen:

From NeoKobe are good HD games (hdi) that run good.
Floppy disk are in formt HDM that are raw disk and must be installed on Hardisk in japanese language. There some tool translated in english to create hdi file, but installation is in japanese.

About Floppy disk in HDM format however, those games that come in 3 disk are to install on HD. Some games that have 2 disk run with no problem; other game with 1 disk not working and require system file (that is HDD installation). Depends from the games
Some games in hdm floppy format have 2 set: hdm only must be installed; hdm (installed) run from floppy disk. Other games are 2 disk (hdm1, hdm2) working perfectly from floppy disk.

CD games should be mounted in the same time with HD because in neokobe there HD installation of CD games, but many of them require a CD-ROM mounted.

CD Games can be very difficult to setup. ;)

i remember spending a long time getting Policenauts to work. :roll:

some require you to boot the emulator holding [END] to open the BIOS menu.
then navigate the Japanese menu to GDC Clock (2-8) and change 2.5MHz to OFF.
then quit and save options.

Just like the MS-DOS config.sys days. :P

Lucky for GameBase this is saved to a cfg file which can be scripted. 8)

; *BIOS GDC 2.5MHz (Policenauts)
Set_INI_Value(%emupath%\np21w.ini||NekoProject21||DIPswtch||3e f3 7b)
; *BIOS GDC 5MHz (Default)
;Set_INI_Value(%emupath%\np21w.ini||NekoProject21||DIPswtch||3e 73 7b)

it requires all 3 media inserted
floppy - boot disk
HD - installed with drivers
CD - the game

FDfolder=C:\GameBase\PC-9801\cd\Policenauts User Disk.FDI
HDfolder=C:\GameBase\PC-9801\cd\HD Policenauts [for Neko Project II].hdi
CDfolder=C:\GameBase\PC-9801\cd\Policenauts.ccd
npcfgDir=C:\GameBase\PC-9801\cd\work.npcfg

if you have problems trying to boot a game.
search for it...
you can find help, boot disks and pre-installed HD images for those titles.

HDM just need a 4096 byte header to make them bootable FDI image (1,232 KB - 1,236 KB).

here is a header from a working image.
use hexeditor or copy command to add it.

copy hdm2fdi.bin+noheaderdisk.hdm working.fdi

CD gAmes working ):

(GDC to 2.5 from bios)
fdd1 = Boot disk (that has autoxec.bat and Config.sys with CD-ROM setup)
IDE #0 or IDE #1 = HDI game (master)
IDE #2 or IDE #3 = CCD (the script for Cd-rom image)(secondary master)

now should be a script to make exact mount of these files:

boot disc in FDD1, HDI in IDE #0 and CCD in IDE #2

however it is not good idea to use CD-ROM in gamebase because there is no flush of data. When you load a game, it remain in "NP21.ini" and when you load another game hdi and CCD remain in memory.
You have to manually search game in folder, remove or change file and so you lose the ability to play with simple click.
Maybe i can put every Cd games in special folder to have there. I use a different emulator version for floppy/HD games and CD-rom games.

you will need to use a combination of all the emulators to get every game running.
several PC versions with slightly updated DOS and ROM versions.

some require certain bios (machine rom) to work.

script example how to eject all the loaded game files.

;Clear previous Floppy, HardDrive, and CD image from the NP21 config file.
; Has FOLDER, FILE and NAME values.
